A Friend of Jesus

Scripture Reading: John 15: 1-17

Focus Verses: John 15: 14-16  “You are my friend if you do whatever I command you.  No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing, but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.  You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit.”

Jesus says that we are His friend if we do what He says.  Sounds a lot like the friendships we have with each other hear on earth.  If you have a close friend, you want to please them.  Not only does Jesus want you as His friend, but He wants you to know everything that God has told Him.  That’s pretty awesome to think about.  Jesus has told us everything that God told Him.  Now here is where our passage of scripture gets a little hard to understand.  We did not choose Jesus, but Jesus chose us.  That’s right, Jesus chose us to remain in His love and produce fruit.  As we are connected to Christ we have the power to produce this fruit.  It all comes back to our obedience to Him.  Let’s obey, so we can be friends of Jesus and be filled with His joy.
