Pride Brings Destruction

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 16:18-33

Focus Verse: Proverbs 16:18  “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

I don’t really like to be around people who are prideful.  These are people who think they are better than everyone else.  They think they know more than everyone else.  They think they are more important than everyone else.  But watch out! If we are not careful, we can be the ones who are prideful.   Satan can trick you into thinking you are better, know more, have more things and are more important than everyone else.  Here’s what Jesus has to say about pride in Luke 14:11 “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”  God is not happy when we have prideful attitudes.  Pride is what led to Lucifer being thrown out of heaven.

As children of God we are to humble ourselves before God and man.  Don’t take credit for what has been accomplished in your life, but give the credit to God.  Jesus said, “without me you can do nothing.”  How can we take the credit, when it is God who gives us our next breath and our next heart beat?  Let’s remember that it is much better for us to humble ourselves than for God to humble us, because just as the Bible says, pride always brings destruction.
