Scripture: Genesis 6:15-22
Focus
verses: [15]This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three
hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high.[16]Make a
roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all
around. Put a door on the side of the ark and make lower, middle and
upper decks.
[22]Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
Imagine
you hire a builder to build you a nice home. You sit down with him,
you explain to him what kind of house you need, the plan of the house
and all that he should do to make the house be just as you had wanted
it. You later come back and realize that he has done the opposite and
placed things opposite your plan. He uses materials different from what
you had told him and you just realize that even though he had the manual
with him, he has deliberately done the opposite. What would you do to
such a builder? I know you may be thinking as I do, "fire him", and you
may never want to see him near that structure. I wanna ask us today,
"how many of us deserve firing today because of how we live our lives
even after God has given us the manual for life (Bible)?"
In our
focus verse, God instructs Noah to make an ark that He would use to
rescue him from the floods that were going to wipe the face of the earth
since the people had rebelled against Him and were living wicked lives.
God presents to Noah the construction plan and he explains everything
to Noah including where to put the decks, their measurements, the type
of materials to use, the roof type among many other instructions. Noah
keenly listens to God's instruction and as verse 22 puts it, he "did
everything just as God had instructed him."
Today many believers
are struggling with being obedient to God for even one year, but Noah
took 100 years building the ark and in all these years, he did just as
God had instructed him. He fully obeyed God! The life of a believer must
remain a life of obedience to God's instruction. God has given us a
manual of life (Bible), and we are called to total obedience to His
manual. We must not like some parts and hate other parts but must be
willing to obey it fully. We are the Noah of today and if we want God to
spare us from the consequences of God's discipline, then we have to decide to be
obedient no matter how long it takes. If we have not been obedient to
Him, we can confess and repent of our sins of disobedience and be grateful for His forgiveness. Amen.
