The Christmas Story is Believable
Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1-20
Focus Verse: Luke 2:20 “The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.”
I have heard the Christmas story so many times I can recite it from memory, but no matter how many times I hear it, I never get tired of hearing it. Even though you have heard it so many times, do you really believe it?
The shepherds were told the Christmas story by an angel. What if they had not believed what the angel was telling them? They would have missed out on seeing the greatest event in human history. God coming to earth in the form of a baby. After the shepherds responded to the invitation, they realized that the story was just as the angel said it would be. The Bible tells us the way it happened many years ago. You can believe it. Don’t let your unbelief stand in the way of accepting the greatest story ever told.
The shepherds were a not of high position in the community, but they were the ones visited by the Heavenly Hosts and told where to find the Christ child. God means for each person to come equally to the merciful Savior to find love, mercy and forgiveness...and a friend. Just as the shepherds were invited to know Jesus, you are also invited. How do you respond?

Influence Your World
Influence Your World
Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:13-16
Focus Verses: Matthew 5:13-14 “You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world.”
In our passage of scripture Jesus is telling His disciples and us today what our responsibility is as we live in this world. He is referring to two things that are very common, salt and light. We use salt to preserve food or to make food taste better. Light is used to help us find our way in the darkness.
As we share our faith with others, Jesus says we are to be like salt and light. We need wisdom in doing this so we get this wisdom from God through prayer. How much salt and light are needed? Have you ever eaten something that had too much salt added? It doesn’t taste very good. Or eaten something with not enough salt? You say "oh this needs more salt" so it will taste good. Perhaps you have looked at the sun before. Which is not a good idea because it can cause blindness because it is so bright. Or maybe you have walked a path with your torch that had a weak battery and you could not see where you were going. When we share our faith with others we need to use the right amount of salt and light so that others will be attracted to Jesus. Many times the Holy Spirit will guide you as you talk with others about their lost condition. So as a cooking recipe calls for the right amount of ingredients, today let’s use our salt and light in the right amounts that will attract people to Jesus.

Spiritually Receptive
Scripture Reading: Matthew 13:15-17
Focus Verse: Mark 4:9 "Then Jesus said, He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
You must be receptive to grow closer to Jesus. Jesus knew His listeners had to be receptive before they could understand and follow His teachings. This is the attitude of a growing disciple of Christ. Have you ever grown weary working for the Lord? Yes, we all have at one time or another, but it's a patient and grateful attitude that hears Christ clearly. God's Word lives in us, and with time will bear fruit. God's Word is not important to just a few elite Christians. No, God Word is important in the life of every Christian that seeks to know Christ in an intimate way.
Spiritually receptive means that our eyes and ears are open to God. We submit to the Holy Spirit's prompting in our lives even if it means to wait. This shows that we give Him control of our lives. This is the best way to live, because when we take control of our own lives, we will make a mess every time.

Christ, The Foundation for Reconciliation!
Bible Reading: Mathew 5: 21-24
Focus verse: "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." 1 John 1:7
We all make friendships which at times break when we get tired with putting up with one another. Good friends have many at times feel like great enemies for different reasons.
We all try to make parties where we can discuss our differences in attempts to reconcile with friends; some people may spend huge amounts of money or wealth in this attempt. Many communities in Africa believe in doing rituals which must involve shedding of the blood of an animal for reconciliation to happen. These and many others attempts that we make many at times have not yielded the true and lasting reconciliation that we needed.
Many fail to identify Jesus to be the foundation and author of reconciliation. They want bloodshed of animals but fail to recognize the unstained, perfect, holy, blameless blood of the Lamb that God has offered for their enmity. Jesus knows your differences and He understands how to mend.
Our sins have separated us from God and we live as his enemies. God does not want us to stay as enemies with him or with other human beings/creatures. He has offered Christ so that we don’t live again as enemies but be reconciled back to him and then to others. Christ is today standing at each ones door, wanting to help make their relationship with our God and others, which has not worked despite our attempts. He does not want us to continue to stay far from him or our other friends. He wants us back to Him and as well want our loved friends back to us. He wants to save us from spending our wealth and time in building reconciliations by offering the perfect Reconciler at a free cost. Each time we are faced with differences we need to let Christ be the reason for our reconciliation, he is able to bring true repentance of forgiveness from the heart.

Remember Who The Enemy Is
Remember Who The Enemy Is
Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 6: 1-7
Focus Verse: "For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies—the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world" Ephesians 6:12
Today I was in a meeting of 12 people. There was a decision to be made and the vote was 9 -3. One of the three people gave a very emotional complaint after the vote because she didn't think the decision was right. Although she doesn't agree, she has a choice to accept the vote and live in peace or choose to live in anger, lies, hate and discord. One way shows humility, the other is pride.
I realize that people, yes, even believers are not always going to think the same way. They are not always going to agree. Sometimes the matter is small and other times the matter seems to be big. The Bible reading today tells us that nothing on this earth that we argue about is greater than the heavenly judgements to come. God tells us to have unity and love one another in humility.
When you find yourself in a dispute with a fellow Christian, ask yourself if you can accept the way things are with the help of Christ and live in peace. If you can not find peace, rather than brother against brother going to court before the civil court of the world, shaming the church; when necessary, Christian brother s should together seek out a fellow Christian . Even then, if you don't agree... In the end of the scripture 1 Corinthians 6:7 says that it is better to allow yourself to be wronged and cheated than to take a believer to court of unbelievers.
The enemy is not your brother; remember who the enemy REALLY is. We do not fight against flesh and blood, but against the unseen enemy of evil.

Community of Care
Scripture Reading: Matthew 25:31-46
Focus Verse: "“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’" Matthew 25: 37-40
Jesus was clear in his teaching to care for our neighbors who are struggling with sickness and physical needs. We may find that the needs are great around us and feel like we can't do much. Jesus didn't say that we should solve all of their problems, but that there is something, even something small, that we can do. Anyone can give a drink to someone or visit someone who is sick to pray with them. How difficult is it to give a shirt or dress to someone whose clothes are torn and tattered. If you don't have something, maybe you can ask some friends to help you to get some clothes for someone in need.
When you help someone, the Holy Spirit confirms in your heart that you are doing something good. You know that is a good feeling. When you join together as a community to help others, then it strengthens the community.
My prayer is that God will show me where to help someone today. May God be glorified in any effort of care that I show to someone today.

Press On
Press On
Scripture Reading: Philippians 3:12-21
Focus Verse: Philippians 3:14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
Have you ever had a day when you just didn’t feel like going on? So many things just don’t seem to be going well. God can give you the power through His Holy Spirit to get you back on track. Paul says “I press on” like he is running in a race, and he’s not going to give up. We will be determined to continue to run in this race until God calls us home and awards us a heavenly prize. God wants us to continue to press on in the work he has given us to do. It is always too soon to quit.
Jesus knew the reward that was on the other side of the cross, and He didn’t quit. We should not quit. The life we live on this earth is so very short compared with the eternity we will spend in heaven. Know that any difficulty that you face is only making you stronger in this life and for all eternity. "Quitters never win, and winners never quit." So when you feel like you can’t go on, God will help you to press on.

Clean Hearts
Scripture Reading: Psalm 51
Focus Verses: Psalm 51:10-12 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presents, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit.”
King David was called a man after God’s own heart. How can this be, since David had committed some really bad sins like adultery and murder? Psalm 51 is David prayer of repentance. God knows that all of us are going to go through times when our hearts are not clean. But what are we going to do about it? It took David almost a year to come to the point where he was ready to repent of his sin. Maybe you're a Christian and you have sinned. Maybe even a really bad sin. God is not going to put you on a shelf and say, “I’m done with you.” No, God want you to come back to him. God wants you to repent of that sin, just as David did. God wants to restore you with a clean heart.
You may need to make Psalm 51 your prayer of repentance. It might be a good idea to commit to memory Psalm 51:10-12. When we pray these verses to God he can give us cleansing and forgiveness. God is longing to forgive you, not condemn you. Let us not waste time with a heart that is not right with God. For His desire is for us to live with clean hearts.

Called to a Higher Standard
Called To A Higher Standard
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:13-25
Focus Verses: 1 Peter 1:15-16 “But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the scripture says, you must be holy because I am holy.”
As Christians God has called us to a standard that is above the world. Peter says "we are to be holy in everything we do, just as God who chose us is holy." Who can measure up to the standard of God? Jesus makes that possible. It is Jesus that has already experienced the temptations of this world, so He can identify with us in this higher standard we are to live. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” If you are going to live a Christian life that is “all in” it’s not easy. We all know people that call themselves Christians, but they still look like the world. But if we are going to live a holy life with a higher standard then we have just put a target on our back, and Satan will be after us. The Bible also says,”greater is He [Holy Spirit] that is in us, than he [Satan] that is in the world." (1John 4:4) It is so important that we don’t get too far away from The Lord who is our source of help if we want to live this higher standard. It’s not easy, but it is possible to live this Christian life with a higher standard because of our Him. There can be victory in our lives!

Known and Loved
Bible Reading: Luke 15:11-32
Focus Verse: John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
There's something so wonderful about being KNOWN and LOVED.
To be known and not loved is heartbreaking and rejected.
To be loved without allowing yourself to be known is not satisfying and lonely.
If you find that you are known and loved by your family and friends it makes this life much more wonderful!
The prodigal son was known by his father. The son rejected everything his father had taught him and turned away from him. The father always lovingly watched for the son. The son returned and the father accepted him with love.
We all have flaws and failures in our life. We disappoint others and ourselves. There are things about us that we wish we could change.
But you should know that God knows you and loves you and is calling you to Himself. He wants a relationship with you and me. He wants to be the one to love you where you are and to give you the power to become transformed. It's beautiful and mysterious so answer the call. You will never regret.

Jesus, The Only Way
Scripture Reading: John 14:1-14
Focus Verses: John 14:5-7 “Thomas said to him, Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way? Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well.”
In the world today there is probably more confusion about how to get to heaven than any other subject. Every religion seems to think they know how to get to heaven. Most all of them involve some type of works based salvation. But salvation is not about what we can do. It’s about what Jesus has already done for us. The only way to God is through faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only path to God. If we could do anything to earn our way to heaven, then Jesus’ death on the cross was in vain and all the pain that Jesus endured on the cross would be worthless.
What the Bible teaches is true. There is no other way to heaven except through Jesus. There is no other way to God except through Jesus. Salvation is so simple, yet so many people are missing it. You will end up in hell one day if you’re counting on getting to heaven another way. The Bible has always been true, and it always will be true.

Religious Freedoms
Scripture Reading: Galatians 1:11-24
Focus Verse: Galatians 1:13 "You know what I was like when I followed the Jewish religion, how I violently persecuted God's church. I did my best to destroy it."
There are people in the world trying to destroy our religious freedoms just like Paul was doing in the first century church. They think Christians are the enemy, and they are doing all they can to destroy the church. Christians are labeled as infidels. Some Christians around the world because of their stand for Christ are being killed, raped, or even driven from their homeland. Darkness is trying to drive away the light. But the darkness cannot win.
2 Thessalonians 1:4 says, "Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring." Jesus told us that we would have trouble in this world. Persecution should not be a surprise to those of us that love the Lord. Persecution can make the church stronger and drive those away that are not truly Christ followers. Matthew 5:12 says, "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Let us pray for those Christians that are enduring severe persecution.

God Never Leaves You
God Never Leaves You
Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 31:1-8
Focus Verse Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you, He will never leave you nor forsake you."
I have noticed as I go through life that I have friendships and relationships of different levels with people. Some close friends and some distant friends.
Relationships are made stronger by the time and effort we put into the relationship. God wants us to put time and effort into our relationship with Him. As a result, He said that He would never leave us. Even though we may do things that displease Him, He still will never leave us. Just as a wayward child that displeases his parents, he is still their child. We can never do anything that would make God turn His back on us and quit loving us. What a great comfort for us as God's children in knowing that Hebrews 13:5 will always be true. "Never will I leave you, Never will I forsake you."

Love a Neighbor
Scripture Reading: Matthew 25:31-46
Focus Verse: "“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’" Matthew 25: 37-40
Jesus was clear in his teaching to care for others who are struggling with sickness and physical needs. We may find that the needs are great around us and feel like we can't do much. Jesus didn't say that we should solve all of their problems, but that there is something, even something small, that we can do. Anyone can give a drink to someone or visit someone who is sick.

Anxiety, Stress and Worry
Anxiety, Stress and Worry
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 5: 1-11
Focus verse: 1 Peter 5:6-7 " So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you."
Peter wrote the instructions in chapter 5 for the elders and the young men. I am sure that along with the responsibilities that both generations had, there was a lot of stress about the leadership, decisions, sufferings of life and more.
We all have times of worry. Some struggle every day with anxiety. This means that you are a normal person. God knew that, so he gave instruction on how to deal with this anxiety. We are to trust God enough to give it to Him. God cares more for you than you can imagine and will work all things together for the good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
As our faith grows stronger, the waves of our worries grow smaller.
Psalm 56:3 says, "
But when I am afraid,
I will put my trust in you."

History Cannot be Changed
Scripture Reading: Luke 1:26-38
Focus Verse: Luke 1:34 "Mary asked the angel, " but how can this happen? I am a virgin."
A television reporter was asked, of all the people who have ever lived on earth, who would he most like to interview? His answer was, "Jesus". He continued, "the one question I would like to ask Him, were you really virgin born." The reporter said, "the answer to that question would define history."
I'm not sure if he thinks that he can change history, but we can just find the truth in the Bible. Well, the Bible said Jesus was virgin born, and even predicted it before it happened. The Bible also predicted Jesus' death on a cross, and the prophecy was fulfilled. Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb, also fulfilling prophecy. Jesus was raised from the dead, also fulfilling prophecy.
The Bible says, "without faith it is impossible to please God." Many people don't have the faith to believe the Bible is truth.

Count the Cost
Scripture Reading: Luke 14:25-34
Focus Verse: Luke 14:28 "But don't begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculation the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?"
I think sometimes when we, as Christians, share our faith we fail to convey that there is a cost to following Jesus. We say something like "just believe in Christ." but Jesus also said we are to "count the cost" of following Him. In Jesus' day there were many that followed Jesus around the countryside, and they were called disciples, but many followed just to see some great miracles. Jesus said if we are not willing to "forsake all" that we cannot be His disciple. I think today there are many in the world that would say they are Christians, but if you talked with them about the meaning of being a Christian, you would find out they are not following Christ. They don't understand these passages in Luke of Jesus telling us the cost of following Him. In fact many of these people that call themselves Christians rarely read the Bible as all. I hope you're not one of these people. Will you calculate the cost of following Jesus before you call yourself a Christian?

Finding Hope, when Knocked Down
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 4
Focus Verses: 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 "We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed."
Life is not a smooth journey. Even as a Christian, our path has many bumps and holes. We may lose our job. We may have financial problems. We may have relational problems with family or friends. We may suffer with physical illnesses. We can even suffer persecution for our faith. But when we face these problems, it means God is up to something. He is at work in our lives. We can be sure that God will never abandon us.
1 Corinthians 15:10 says, "But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me." As the Body of Christ we may suffer, but God will have the final word. Jesus is coming back for us one day. All our hurts will be made better. All the wrongs will be made right. He will take us to a place of joy, and then all that has happened here on earth will just be a distant memory.
So we look to The Lord who lifts us up. So we persevere through trials. We don't give up. We move step by step with Christ. We know that all this is true, because His Word says so.

Freedom is Obeying God
Freedom is Obeying God
Scripture Reading: Psalm 119:41-48
Focus Verses: Psalm 119:44-45 "I will keep on obeying your instructions forever and ever. I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments."
The world looks at the Bible and thinks God has made all these rules and regulations to keep us from having fun. They think Christians and bound by all that God has said to do, and not to do. In reality, the world that lives against the Bible, they are the ones that are held in bondage by their sin.
When we live in obedience to God there is freedom from guilt, and freedom from the consequences of sin. Romans 6:14 says, "For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace." God has given us these guidelines in His Word because He loves us, and knows this is what is best for us. We tell our children "don't play with snakes". Not because we don't want them to have fun, but because we don't want them to get hurt.
God says we will be blessed when we obey. James 1:25 says, "But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it, not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it, they will be blessed in what they do." The next time you are tempted to do what is wrong, think about whether you want to live in freedom or in bondage. God has said, "the truth of His Word will make you free."

Importance of a Good Reputation
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 22
Focus Verse: Proverbs 22:1 "Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold."
Some people in the world today, if offered enough money, would trade their good reputation for a bad one. The problem with that is, they would be trading the eternal for the temporary. Yes, you could do a lot of fun things with a big pile of cash. But we are all going to die one day, and when we do, you will leave it all behind. On the other hand, your reputation is something that will follow you into eternity.
What is a good reputation worth? Proverbs say a good reputation is worth more than any amount of money. Proverbs 3:3-4 also says, "Let love and faithfulness never leave you, bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man."
Personal integrity, and a good reputation are very important for others to see in our lives, but even more important for God to see. Our obedience to God shows our love for Him. As we go about the things we do today, let's remember we have something very valuable following close behind us. It's our reputation. We have control over whether it will be bad or good based on the choices we make.

Grateful Praise to God
Scripture Reading: Jonah 2
Focus Verses: Jonah 2:8-9 "Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God's love for them. But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, Salvation comes from the Lord."
We can't help but give grateful praise to God, when our hearts are in a right relationship with God. Jonah said "those who worship idols, turn away from God's love. Anything that comes between us and God, hinders our praise for Him as well. I have noticed in my own life, if I have unconfessed sin, the last thing I feel like doing is praising God. Jonah confessed his sins from inside the fish, and then offered grateful praise to God.
Satan surely does not want you to praise God, so Satan will try to drive wedges in between us and God. He will always do it by tempting us to sin, and then hoping we will yield to that temptation. The main reason God created us was to glorify and praise Him. Let's not let Satan rob us of the joy of giving grateful praise to God.
If your fellowship is broken with God, confess your sin. God is waiting for you to come back to Him. He wants more than anything to restore the relationship and receive your grateful praise again.

Be Watchful and Fear Not
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 5
Focus Verse: " Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are." 1 Peter 5:8-9
This passage tells the elders how to eagerly watch over the church members in love. Not as a tyrant, but as a gentle example of how to follow Christ. Humility is the best trait that we can wear as we lead and as we follow.
We are also to watch carefully for the spiritual enemy, Satan and his demons, who want to devour and shame the people of God. We are to be able to stand firm in our faith as we face these temptations and trials in our lives.
We are to be watchful, as good shepherds, but not to fear! Isaiah 41:10 says:
"Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."
As the pastors and elders shepherd the church, they must remember that they have the Good Shepherd with them to encourage, strengthen and hold them up. God is victorious!

Godly Advice & Encouragement
Bible Reading: Hebrews 13
Focus verse: "You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God." Hebrews 3:13
I hope you read Hebrews 13 slowly. There is a lot of great advice in that chapter as the author, thought to be Paul, concludes the letter. Like a loving father he gave a lot of great advice for the living the Christian life. From topics of hospitality, marriage, money, fear, leaders, sacrifice, to living honorably, he reminds them of their position.
I don't want to say too much, but read through Hebrews 13 again. We all need to be reminded of God's truth so that we won't be deceived by the lies of the enemy. It is the role of Christ followers to exhort, or remind others of the ways of the Lord in a loving way.
As a believer, we are given the position of God's child. As a believer, we should also behave like God's child.

Love God -> Obey Him
Bible reading Hebrews 12
Focus verse: "Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us." 1 John 3:24
When we first trusted Christ as our savior, we became His children. We didn't do anything to deserve it and we can't earn our own way to Him. He loved us, forgave our sins and accepted us into His family. Our faith in God and our love for Him leads us to desire obedience. When we sin, and we all have, the Holy Spirit convicts us of that sin and we have the opportunity to repent. When we continue in sin, we are not loving God, but despising His commands. God will not allow his child to continue in sin without consequence. He will discipline, remove blessings and bring you to your knees before Him out of His great love for you. Do not resist God's discipline, but allow yourself to be humble before God and repent to walk in obedience and in fellowship with Him.
Faith leads to obedience. Philippians 2:10 "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth" As a child of God, will you be on your knees willingly or will you be driven to your knees with God's discipline?
I am praying for a humble heart to willingly yield to Him.

Unexpected Journey
Bible Reading: Ruth 1
Focus Verse: "A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps." Proverbs 16:9
Ruth, a Moabite woman, was married for 10 years to an Israelite man and was settled in her life. Suddenly, he died along with his brother. Now her husband's father had also died. This left Naomi, the mother-in-law and the two women alone. They heard that the crops were good in Judah and began their journey there. One of the women turned back, but Ruth made a commitment to her mother-in-law, Naomi. This commitment resulted in a great blessing to both Ruth and Naomi.
Many times we make a plan for our life, but tragedy strikes or something happens that keeps our plans from coming true. If we are following God, we will have the wisdom to find the path to take. God has a plan for our life. No matter the pain, suffering, confusion or disappointment in losing our original plan, we can rest in the knowledge that God is directing our next step.
Trust Him.

Light and Shadow
All
the masterpieces of art contain both light and shadow. A happy life is
one filled not only with sunshine, but one which uses both light and
shadow to produce beauty. The greatest musicians, as a rule, are those
who know how to bring song out of sadness. Fanny Crosby, her spirit
aglow with faith in Christ, saw more with her sightless eyes than most
of us do with normal vision. She has given us some of the great gospel
songs which cheer our hearts and lives.
In a rat-infested jail in Philippi, Paul and Silas sang their song of praise at midnight to the accompaniment of the jailer’s whip. But their patience in suffering and persecution led to the heathen warden’s conviction.
Prayer for the day: Let my heart learn to sing when everything around me seems so dark. Give me Your grace to praise You, Lord Jesus.

Entertainment With Principles
Bible Reading:
Philippians 4:8, 2 Timothy 2:22, 1 Corinthians 10:12
Focus verse: 1 Corinthians 10:23 "You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial."
Daily activities and entertainment should be chosen with God's principles in mind. Philippians 4:8 reminds me to think about things that are worthy. 2 Timothy 2:22 helps me to know that I should not be looking at movies that stir up lust in my heart, but instead to watch or listen to things that pursue righteous living. 1 Cor 10:32 reminds me that just because I can do something, it doesn't mean that I should. I need to know if it is beneficial to myself and to others as well as the cause of Christ.
Since the Bible says to fix your thoughts on things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely and admirable then we should only watch or listen to things that will be worthy of praise. Since the Bible says to run from things that stimulate youthful lust, then we shouldn't watch videos (or internet) that would cause those feelings. The Bible says that not everything is good/beneficial for you, and something can be "ok" but is it beneficial?
My goal is to keep my thoughts based on things that are honorable so not to fill my mind with garbage from movies, music, and internet. I want to chose entertainment that will be worthy of praise and not be ashamed of what I do. I will have accountability with a friend that can ask me about what I've been watching or listening to and be open about it. Do you want to find a friend and ask them to help you be accountable for your decisions on music, movies and internet use?

Called to Holy Living
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:13 - 2:3
Focus Verse: 1 Peter 1:13 "Think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world."
Why are we called by God to live holy lives? God knows what's best for us. He has given us everything we need to know about holy living in His Word and it is confirmed by the Holy Spirit. As Christians we follow God's Word like a boat captain follows a compass to show him what direction to go. The boat captain knows the compass will help keep his boat off the rocks.
One problem in the world today is that man has decided that he will make the rules as to what is right and wrong. What a mess that has turned out to be. Leaving behind God's standard leaves no direction for right or wrong. In that mindset, it's okay to steal your neighbors things or to lie, if it will benefit you. It's okay for two men to get married. If you don't like someone, it's okay to kill them. It's okay to sleep with someone that's not your spouse. Men have told God that "they" know what is best and not Him. So many people have believed the lie of Satan, that "I know how to run my own life." We know that pathway leads straight to Hell. That is not wise.
Think clearly and exercise self-control. Do yourself a favor today and get into God's Word and discover how holy living really is the best way to live, and the most satisfying for this life and eternity.

Stay Grafted to Christ
Scripture Reading: John 15:1-17
Focus Verse: John 15:4 "Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in Me."
None of us started out connected to the vine. The book of Acts says "there is none righteous no not one." We were born into this world separated from Christ. If we have been saved through faith in Christ we are then joined to Him. People who know something about trees will tell you that you can join two trees together by grafting. Grafting is a process where you can take a small branch from one tree and insert it into a prepared place into a larger tree and it will begin to grow. That is what Christ has done for us. He has allowed us to be joined to Himself. This is where we get strength to live the Christian life here on this earth.
If you look around you will see many people who are dead in their trespasses and sins because they are not connected to the source of life that is in Christ. For a grafted branch to grow it takes a lot of care.
So how do we stay grafted to Christ? We do this through prayer and Bible reading, through fellowship with other branches that have been grafted to Christ and are growing strong, and by attending a good Bible believing, Bible teaching church. So today, lets do something to strengthen our graft to Christ.

Are You a Friend of God
Scripture Reading: James 2:14-26
Focus Verse: James 2:23 "And the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God's friend."
As people look at your life, would they say you are a friend of God or a friend of the world? I've seen too many Christians try to be friends with the world and God. There is a story that was told during the civil war in America in the 1800s. A solder always wanted to be on the winning side, so he had a military uniform for both sides. So he would wear the one that was winning that day. One day he mistakenly put on trousers for one side, and the coat for the other side. When he went out to battle that day both sides shot at him!
It's the same way with God. You cannot lie to God about your loyalty. You can't be friends with Him and friends with the world at the same time. Abraham's friendship with God was credited as righteousness to him. When we surrender and become totally dependent on God we can appreciate Him as friend. Jesus extends friendship to those who are His disciples. "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you." John 15:15 Do you enjoy this level of friendship with Jesus? If you are known as a friend of God, you can be sure you will also be known as an enemy of evil.

There is Only One God
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 43:1-13
Focus Verse: Isaiah 43:10 "You are my witnesses, says the Lord, and My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me."
As Christians we have learned that only God is the true God. Humans can not be God. There is a saying that "God is God and I am not." When you look at the size of the world and the size of the universe we realize that humans are very very small. One of the Ten Commandments is "You shall have no other gods before Me." Unbelievers and even some believers have put things ahead of God. Education, money, possessions, jobs, even ourselves can come between us and God.
None of these things are as important as our relationship with God. They all need to be put in their right place. We should continually check ourselves to see if these things or other things are slipping into first place in our lives ahead of God. The Holy Spirit helps us to keep priorities as we are reading the Bible and praying everyday. Do you live with God in first place?

Look Upward for Help
Scripture Reading: Psalm 121
Focus Verses: Psalm 121:1-3 "I look up to the mountains, does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who make heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble, the one who watches over you will not slumber."
Do you look to the mountains for your help? Some Bible teachers believe the psalmist was actually referring to idols that were built on the mountains. Just imagine a true believer in Christ walking on that road to Jerusalem in that day, and seeing the idols on the mountains. He would have been reminded that his help doesn't come from those idols on the mountains, but his help comes from the one who made the mountains, Creator God.
Sometimes we tend to look to different people, government, things or places in this world for help. But real help can only come from the Lord, the One who made us. He is never tired or too busy to help us. In fact, He wants us to come to Him for help. If we have truly been born again into God's family, this is our privilege as one of God's children. Let us pray: "God show me if I've been looking for help in the wrong places, and help me look only to You for help and guidance, in Jesus name, amen."

Joy Over One
Joy Over One
Bible Reading: Luke 15:3-7
Focus verse: "In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!" Luke 15:7
What would cause a sheep to be led astray? There could be distractions of the world or just the natural wandering. Whatever the cause, the sheep is lost. The shepherd loves the sheep and will put all effort in seeking out the one that is lost. He will leave the 99 at home and search. When the lost sheep is found, he will lovingly carry the sheep on his shoulder and call his friends to rejoice.
Jesus taught this parable to help us understand how much God, our shepherd, loves us. God sent Jesus to seek and save those that are lost. (Luke 19:10) God loves us and does not abandon us when our world grows dark and dim.
Do you feel like you are one of the 99 or the lost one? If you are with God as the 99, then there was a day that you were the one that was lost and Jesus found you. If I am part of the 99, I am resting in His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. I am listening to Him and obeying Him every day. I am turning left or right and doing His will.
If you are lost, you can be found. Hear the voice of the shepherd calling? Return to Him and answer Him in a prayer.
There is JOY over one who repents and returns to God!

Have Hope When Fearful
Scripture Reading: John 6:16-21
Focus Verse: John 6:20 "Jesus called out to them, don't be afraid. I am here."
The recent terror attacks on the Kenyan people are still fresh in our minds. Christians have been persecuted for the cause of Christ ever since the first century of the church. It is easy to be overcome with fear of the enemy, but we don't have to focus on our fear because we have a hope in Jesus.
Jesus' disciples found themselves in a severe storm. They were afraid that they would perish that night on the Sea of Galilee. Sometimes God will test our trust in Him. He allows us to struggle sometimes. If we never had any crisis we may tend to be proud and self sufficient. But God alone is in control of all that goes on in our lives. "He alone has spread out the heavens and marches on the waves of the sea." Job 9:8
If you find yourself in the middle of a crisis, you can have hope. Jesus is walking toward you and wants to calm the storms in your life. In this world we will have trouble (John 16:33), but we can rejoice that Jesus has overcome the world. We can also have the hope of heaven when all our tears will be wiped away. All our problems will be gone. All our suffering will come to an end. He is preparing a place for us of unimaginable joy. There we will be with Jesus for ever and ever.

Jesus is Alive and Well
Scripture Reading: Mark 16:9-20
Focus Verse: Mark 16:14 "Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating, He rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.
This is the time of year that we celebrate Easter. Crucifixion Friday was a day filled with disappointment, but Resurrection Sunday is the day that all our hope is realized when we see Jesus alive and well. The Bible says that many of Jesus' followers didn't believe He had risen until they saw Him.
Through the years, many have tried to disprove the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, but you can believe it's true, because the Bible says it's true. The Bible says that Jesus is alive and well today. I know this is true because He is alive and well - living in me. Have you had the same experience of Christ living in you? For everyone who puts their faith and trust in Him, He will forgive their sins and take up residence in their hearts. Easter is the time when we can be reminded that Christ is living.
We are mourning for the loss of many lives in Kenya due to people who hate Christians. They killed many people at Garissa University this week. In our mourning, we do not have despair. Christ is alive and well and you can rise above your circumstances, your hurt, and your fears. Let us live lives that are victorious, because we know that Jesus is alive and well.
"With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all" Acts 4:33.

Leave a Godly Legacy
Leave A Godly Legacy
Scripture Reading: Genesis 49:29-33
Focus Verse: Genesis 49:33 "When Jacob finished his charge to his sons, he drew his feet into the bed, breathed his last, and joined his ancestors in death."
Jacob didn't live a perfect life, but overall he lived a life of faithfulness to God. None of us are perfect, but we can leave a godly legacy. What kind of legacy will you leave when you die?
We should be concerned with the legacy we will leave our family when we die. So many people are concerned with what they will leave their children. They work hard all their lives to leave money, houses, or land. But all these things are temporary. We should be concerned with leaving a legacy of things that are eternal! Satan does not want you to leave these things that are eternal, because he knows that a godly legacy can be handed down to many generations to come.
We all are influencing someone and forming our legacy. It matters everyday how we are living our lives, because people are watching. Let us each live in such a way that at our funeral people will say "they left a godly legacy."

One Mediator: Jesus
Scripture Reading: John 1:1-18
Focus Verse: 1 Timothy 2:5 "For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus."
I have preached the Gospel in many different places to many different people in Kenya Africa. The same Jesus is good for all. I have used different illustrations to help different groups of people to understand the truths of the Bible, but the truths of the Bible will never change. The fact of Jesus' virgin birth, Jesus' sinless life, and His sacrificial death and resurrection are truths that have never changed and they never will.
Jesus is not only the Christ, but He is God Almighty. In our scripture reading John says "And the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Jesus was the Word. Then John continues, "and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." The full deity of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our Christian faith. Many people say Jesus was a good teacher. Yes He was, but He was so much more than that. He was fully God and fully man. That is the truth of the Bible, and that will never change.

Stay in the Fight
“Stay in the Fight”
Bible reading: Ephesians 6:10-20
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the full armor of God so that you will be able to resist in the evil day and having done everything to stand firm.” Ephesians 6:12-13
“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity but of power and love and discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7
The Christian life is much more than what we can see. We have an enemy who is always looking for ways to defeat us. It is easy to get distracted and forget that there is more at stake. But God reminds us in his Word that He has given us His power. He has given us all the tools we need to defeat the enemy instead of being defeated by Him.
He has given us the belt of truth. The truth of God’s word keeps us grounded and anchored so that we can stand against the devil’s lies.
He has given us the breastplate of righteousness. Obedience provides protection. What an amazing promise!
He has given us the gospel of peace. Peace keeps us from being anxious or worried. Peace provides confidence, not in ourselves, but in God.
He has given us the helmet of salvation to protect our minds and thoughts.
He has given us the shield of faith. When flaming arrows come to destroy us, the shield of faith will put them out.
He has given us the sword of the Spirit, His Word. When Jesus was tempted by the devil, He always said “It is written…” and quoted Scripture. That was His defense and should be ours as well. Memorizing scripture is a great weapon against the enemy.
He has given us access to Him through prayer. We can speak freely to the God of the universe and He will listen and act! Wow!
So when you get discouraged by the attacks of the enemy, remember these things. Put on the armor. Sharpen your Sword. And stay in the fight! (We’ve already won!)

Humble
Humble
Bible reading: James 4
James 4:10 “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” ESV
As a child of Christ, pride and selfish ambition have followed me throughout my life.
The message of society has always been to look out for yourself and your family, work hard and find success. Success as measured by material goods, worldly possessions, positions of power and friends of influence. Building a life, family and career requires dedication, determination and hard work. A natural result of success is to have pride in the success and the life that is being built. Pride and confidence in worldly accomplishments can become detrimental to my walk with Christ. If I become too confident in my own ability to provide and succeed, measuring my success by the standards of the society in which I live then I become less dependent on God and more dependent on my own ability. This leads me to only seeking God and his blessing to supplement my plan and provide when my ability falls short.
His word tells me to humble myself before him in James. In Matthew the Lord tells those who would follow him to “Take up your cross and follow me...” Matt 16:24. The cross was an instrument of death and once someone took up their cross they were on their way to be executed. When we take up our cross we die to self and live for Christ. The only way we can become truly humble before God is through taking up of our cross and following him. When we fully humble ourselves before him we do not live according to the expectations of the world but according to the expectations of our heavenly father.
Seek today how you can humble yourself before God, asking him to show you through his Holy Spirit, how to become humble before him and how to “Walk humbly with your God” Micah 6:8 ESV. For this is what the Lord demands of his children.

Giving Thanks Honors God
Giving Thanks Honors God
Bible Reading: John 6
Focus Verse: John 6:11 "Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted."
When someone gives you a gift, you generally thank them for it. That is a good thing to do because someone has shown you a kindness. In our story today, a young boy gave his lunch to Jesus for feeding the people. Jesus took the loaves and fish and gave thanks to God. Why do you think He did that?
We can get further insight with this verse:
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17
The result of thanking God, was supply in the abundance! There was more food than the people could consume! This was a blessing indeed.
When someone gives you a gift, thank the giver, but don't forget to thank the God who is the ultimate giver. Without Him, the gift couldn't be given.

Future in Focus
Bible Reading: Psalm 23
With 2014 in the rear-view mirror and most of 2015 still before us, our thoughts tend to be future-oriented. What will this year's headlines reveal about the economy? The Middle East? ISIS? Wars and rumors of wars? Births and deaths? How will our own personal headlines read? As you navigate your way through 2015, is your outlook one of anticipation or apprehension? Confidence or consternation?
In Psalm 23, David expresses his optimism regarding the future: "Surely goodness and mercy (loving kindness, NASB) shall follow me all the days of my life" (v. 6). As he looks back on his life, David sees the faithful, loving, shepherding hand of God protecting, providing, leading, comforting, healing and delivering. His past experiences have forged an unwavering confidence in the present and an unshakable hope for the future. Not "possibly" or even "likely," but SURELY is the abiding reality of God's steadfast goodness and lovingkindness in his life. And just as surely is that wonderful promise given to all who possess the faith of David.
Knowing that a good God orders and oversees our days, however, doesn't mean that everything awaiting us in 2015 will be "good" (as we perceive it). David had to deal with ferocious lions, an intimidating giant, a paranoid, hot-tempered king, and a rebellious son, among other things. He knew what it was to feel isolated and lonely, abandoned and afraid, misunderstood and persecuted, weak and sinful and broken. But all along the way, a good and loving God was at work on his behalf to sustain, strengthen, forgive, restore and perfect. And as each day's happenings unfold for us in 2015, we, too, can rest in the knowledge that "in ALL THINGS God works for the GOOD of those who (like David) love Him, and who have been called according to His purpose" (Rom. 8:28, NIV).
As Haddon Robinson says in his book, Trusting the Shepherd: Insights from Psalm 23, "Surely goodness and mercy will pursue us. 'Surely,' because God has never failed us in the past. 'Surely,' because He does not begin a work He does not complete. 'Surely,' because the experience of His flock attests to what David knew: that God never forsakes us. If the Lord is your Shepherd and you are His sheep, He walks before you, and goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life. That includes today."

Are You Compromising?
Are You Compromising?
Scripture Reading: Daniel 1
Focus Verse: Daniel 1:8 "But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods."
Every day we are faced with decisions to compromise or to not compromise our beliefs. We live in a land where many do not honor God. As Christians we must decide, will I compromise my purity? Will I compromise my integrity? Will I compromise my lifestyle? What kind of price do we pay for compromising these things in our life? Daniel decided in his heart that he would not eat the King's food and wine. It may be because the meat was not prepared by Jewish laws. However, his decision meant that he could have been put to death for not eating the food offered to him by the king. But he decided even if it meant death he would not compromise, and he would stay true to God.
Do you compromise your beliefs for gain? Are you willing to be dishonest in business to gain financially? Satan will tempt you into thinking that this is okay. Satan will say "after all you need to feed your family and provide for them. God can certainly provide for your family without you cheating and stealing to gain.
Don't compromise your Christian character and testimony by listening to Satan's lies. I hope we can all stand before God one day knowing that we have not compromised our beliefs to gain something that we can't keep anyway.

Know Your Enemy
Know Your Enemy
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 4
Focus Verses: 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 "If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God."
Ever since God cast Satan out of heaven he has been trying to destroy God's greatest part of creation. People are God's greatest creation. Satan does not have unlimited power like God, but he does have certain abilities. Paul says Satan is the god of this world. When we look at the mess this world is in today, there is no doubt that Satan has something to do with this. Satan will one day lose his power when Jesus returns to set up His Kingdom here on earth.
But for now, Satan does his best to blind the minds of unbelievers from seeing and hearing the truth. Satan has a deep hatred for God, and he will do anything possible to keep people from having a loving relationship with God. The Bible also calls Satan the father of lies. Satan has the ability to make lies look like truth. This is where believers need to be careful. Satan will try and get you to doubt something that you know by mixing truth with lies. We can know what is truth if we will continue to read God's Word. You can tell the difference between truth and error when you test it against God's Word the Bible.
So let's be aware of who our enemy is. The way to win this battle is to know God's Word as well as the tactics of the enemy.

Don't Cause Another to Stumble
Don't Cause Another to Stumble
Scripture Reading: Romans 14
Focus Verse: Romans 14:21 "It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak."
There are activities mentioned in the Bible that are clearly wrong. You should not steal. You should not commit adultery and so forth. These activities are as clear to understand as easy as telling the difference between black and white. We all know right from wrong. But there are other activities that we would call gray areas where it is not as clear if an activity is right or wrong. In doing something, we should question the possibility of causing a brother to stumble.
What if a believer in Christ drinks some alcohol? There are at least two problems I see with you doing this. First, the one who drinks has the potential of becoming an alcoholic. Second, if a young person new in their faith sees a Christian drinking, so they feel it is okay for them to drink. Then if they became addicted to alcohol, you would be responsible for that person living a wasted life. They will have stumbled.
Therefore we would do well to choose our activities carefully. You don't want to do anything that would bring criticism against yourself, the church or Christ. What we do affects others. We should not only be concerned with the opinion that God has of us, but we should also be concerned with the testimony of our lives. Today let's examine our lives and see if there is anything that would cause another to stumble and fall.

God is Concerned
God is Concerned
Scripture Reading: Mark 8:27-38
Focus Verse: Mark 8:33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
The Bible tells us that God is concerned with many things. But what do you think concerns God the most? The Lord is concerned that His will is done on earth just as it is in heaven. This includes your obedience, making disciples to build His kingdom. That is why it is important that we tell others about God's love for them.
God is concerned with the promises that He makes to us. Does God hear our prayers? Yes, that is one of His promises. Sometime it may seem that God doesn't hear us. But God always listens to us. He sometimes doesn't answer our prayers the way we want. Because He always knows what is best for us.
Peter thought that he knew what was best, even better than Jesus. But Jesus told Peter, "You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns. So many times our human concerns get in the way of what God is concerned with. Today let's make God's concerns our concerns.
