Count the Cost

Scripture Reading: Luke 14:25-34

Focus Verse: Luke 14:28  "But don't begin until you count the cost.  For who would begin construction of a building without first calculation the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?"

I think sometimes when we, as Christians, share our faith we fail to convey that there is a cost to following Jesus.  We say something like "just believe in Christ." but Jesus also said we are to "count the cost" of following Him.  In Jesus' day there were many that followed Jesus around the countryside, and they were called disciples, but many followed just to see some great miracles.  Jesus said if we are not willing to "forsake all" that we cannot be His disciple.  I think today there are many in the world that would say they are Christians, but if you talked with them about the meaning of being a Christian, you would find out they are not following Christ.  They don't understand these passages in Luke of Jesus telling us the cost of following Him.  In fact many of these people that call themselves Christians rarely read the Bible as all.  I hope you're not one of these people.  Will you calculate the cost of following Jesus before you call yourself a Christian?
